Overview[]
Misa is an actress/singer that came into possession of a Death Note. She developed a crush on Kira and devoted herself to his cause, even making a deal for Shimigami eyes (the ability to know anyone's name by looking at them) in exchange for half her lifespan.
Origin[]
Little is known of Misa's life prior to her involvement with the Death Note except that her parents were killed by a burglar when she was young. She was already on her way up to becoming a model, and was nearly killed by a crazed fan. She was saved by a shinigami named Gelus, who killed the fan before he could kill Misa. The shinigami lost his life as a result, because it's forbidden for a shinigami to extend a human's life. After Gelus' death, another shinigami named Rem appears and gives her Gelus' death note. Prior to that, she had watched the burglar who killed her parents be killed by Kira. She decides to support Kira by becoming a second Kira, and contacts him by making an anonymous video and sending it to a local news station. After meeting Light, she falls for him. He becomes her boyfriend, but in reality just manipulates her to his advantage.
Personality[]
Bubbly, hyper, ditzy, and completely and utterly devoted to Light Yagami/Kira, to the point of threatening to murder any other girl she sees him with. She will do anything for Light, and doesn't mind being used. Despite her occasional ditziness, she was smart enough to identify Kira by using the Shinigami Eyes in a way even Rem had not thought of. Still, she primarily plays second fiddle to her manipulative boyfriend.
Creation[]
Death Note was created by writer Tsugumi Ohba and drawn by Takeshi Obata. Viz Media acquired rights to publish the English version of the popular Japanese anime in North America.
