Major Story Arc
Phantom Blood Arc
Before Dio's arrival, JoJo had a happy and easy life, but all that happiness was gone like dream due to Dio's influence. When JoJo's life was getting more miserable everyday, he met a girl named Erina Pendleton and they fell in love with each other. Wanting to destroy any happiness JoJo could have, Dio steals Erina's first kiss, which creates tension between Erina and JoJo. Knowing that Dio had done something to Erina, JoJo rushes to Dio and fights him to defend Erina's honor. Dio was winning the fight at first, but JoJo kept coming back, which helped him to win the fight. At the very last moment, Dio pulled his hidden knife and planned to use to kill JoJo, but that was interrupted when George intervened. Since then, both of them became friendly to each other, but only on outside.
Years later, George Joestar has gotten sick by a mysterious illness. After finding letter from Dario to George by accident, JoJo starts to suspect that Dio has been poisoning his father. To find the truth, JoJo ventures to dark alley of London, where he meets Robert E.O. Speedwagon, who was initially attacking JoJo for money, but was impressed by JoJo's kind heart and decides to help him. Upon his return, JoJo confronts Dio about the poison. Dio denies at first, but it was futile when Speedwagon saw through his lies. Before he was about to be arrested by police, Dio attempts to stab JoJo and use his blood to activate the Stone Mask and turn himself into a vampire, but George jumps in and gets himself killed instead of his son. Being a vampire, Dio becomes incredibly powerful, killing most of the people present at ease. JoJo fought against and manages to defeat Dio with great injury on himself.
Dio somehow survives and regains his strength. Meanwhile, JoJo is approached by Will A. Zeppeli, who informs JoJo that Dio is still alive and teaches him the technique known as Ripple that can defeat undead beings. Chasing after Dio is to end his reign, JoJo finally defeats Dio once again. Thinking that the world is safe, he and Erina decide to take a honeymoon trip to America. However, that turns out to be a grave mistake when Dio returns once again and attacks JoJo by surprise. Before he was about to give up, he notices a baby crying. JoJo gives everything he has left to save Erina and the baby, and leave himself in the sinking ship. He passed away while holding Dio's dismembered head.
