|Aliases||"V" - "The Visionary"|
|Manga||Bleach Chapter #572|
Gremmy Thoumeaux is a powerful member of the Wandenreich Sternritter with the designation of "V" - "The Visionary".
Gremmy's origin is unknown, but at some point in the past he was inducted into the ranks of the Sternritter and given the designation of “V” – “The Visionary”. It’s unknown if his brain was removed from his true body and placed in a protective casing before or after this event.
Gremmy was created by Tite Kubo to serve as a secondary antagonist in his manga, Bleach. His first appearance was during Volume ?? of Bleach, Chapter 572, The Blaster.
Gremmy's appearance is somewhat unique in comparison to the overall style of characters in Bleach, appearing more childlike, and with more delicate features than anyone other character of note. He has very messy blond hair coupled with bright red eyes. This body however is a creation of his own power and serves as little more than a puppet for him to use. What remains of his real body is little more than a brain in a protective jar.
His attire consists of the Sternritters normal white uniform, a large white trench coat with a hood.
Gremmy is incredibly arrogant of his own powers and abilities, claiming outright that he is the strongest of the Sternritter and that there is no greater force than the power of imagination, his ability. He is shown to be very cold, when he slaughtered his own creation despite its protests and killed two completely defenseless and unconscious captains without any remorse.
His arrogance is further shown when he tells Kenpachi that he will not even raise one finger against him, believing his power to be sufficient enough on its own that he would not have to take any action against him, despite knowing who Kenpachi was and how powerful and dangerous he was.
Major Story Arcs
The Thousand-Year Blood War Arc
Gremmy is first introduced during the second invasion of the Soul Society conducted by the Wandenreich. He interrupts the fight between Yachiru Kusajishi and Guenael Lee by dealing a grievous wound to Guenael Lee, showing himself inside the barrier protecting Captains Rose and Kensei. As Guenael tried to reason with him and let him continue fighting, Gremmy destroyed him fully, stating that he was simply a produce of his imagination all along.
As Isane turns in shock at his sudden appearance inside her barrier, he reveals that he has also killed Rose and Kensei and that she shouldn’t worry about them anymore. Yachiru takes this chance to try and attack Gremmy with her Shikai, which he dodges easily, and then counters by grabbing her hand with his own. He then proceeds to use his ability on her arm, turning her bones into cookies, and when she tried to make another move against him he turns the bones in her other arm into cookies too. He then states that his ability is one that allows him to make anything he can imagine a reality, just as Kenpachi interrupts them by blasting his way through the roof into the building. As Kenpachi and Isane exchange words, Gremmy interrupts them but noting that Kenpachi is strong, and with a smile he proceeds to raise the ground around them to construct a large stage for them to fight on.
As Gremmy and Kenpachi exchange some words, Gremmy tells him about his ability and the letter he was given by Yhwach, stating that out of all the Sternritter there is no one stronger than him. Kenpachi responds by trying to cut him in half, only to have his sword stopped due to Gremmy using his ability to make his skin harder than steel, at which moment Kenpachi cuts straight through his body stating that all he had to do was increase his strength enough to cut steel In the first place.
As they begin to face off against one another, Gremmy uses his power to heal the damage done to him by Kenpachi. After some mocking from both Kenpachi and Gremmy, they begin to battle, with Gremmy creating a torrent of Lava and water to attack Kenpachi, at which point he opts to seal him inside the stage he had created. Unfortunately Kenpachi simply cuts his way out and tries to strike Gremmy again, which Gremmy blocks by creating a large sword of his own. They then proceed to tear up the arena even more exchanging blow after blow, with Gremmy creating elaborate constructs in order to try and kill Kenpachi.
Kenpachi during the clash gains the upper hand and actually starts to deal serious damage to Gremmy, who almost makes his own death a reality, before Kenpachi manages to snap him out of it. Gremmy then thanks Kenpachi for saying that and proceeds to create another Gremmy, stating that this is his strongest ability as it allows him to increase the power of his imagination, as he summons a giant meteor high above the Seireitei saying that he will destroy all of the Seireitei with his power. As the meteor crashes through the barrier protecting the Seireitei, Gremmy tells Kenpachi that even if he does manage to kill him before it hits the ground it would be pointless, as the meteor would still exist. Gremmy is then shocked to witness Kenpachi smile and jump straight at the dropping meteor activating his Shikai, Nozarashi.
Gremmy watches as his meteor is obliterated and fragmented by Kenpachi in a single swing. Gremmy is shocked and starts to call Kenpachi a monster, as Kenpachi beings to gloat once again that there is nothing he can’t cut, which causes Gremmy to summon even more clones of himself and attack Kenpachi with something he is unable to cut, a vacuum similar to outer space. Kenpachi beings to suffer the effects to rapid decompression, spitting up blood and other body fluids as Gremmy explains what is happening. Kenpachi once again interrupts him by destroying one of his clones just as the void closed in around him, and then proceeded to slice ever other clone Gremmy had created into two, before they finally detonated in a violent explosion as a last ditch effort to kill him.
As Gremmy stands exhausted on the ground, he sees Kenpachi standing a midst the smoke caused by the explosion still alive. Gremmy angered by this begins to use his power to make himself strong enough to kill him, however his body is unable to contain the power he has given himself and literally rips apart. As Gremmy lay defeated on the ground he notes that his power was perfect, except that he overlooked that only Kenpachi’s body was capable of containing that power inside of it. Gremmys body beings to fade away, Gremmy reminds Kenpachi that he said he would kill Kenpachi without lifting a finger, stating that he stayed true to his word in that regard. As the rest of his body is fading away, he realizes that it will be lonely where he is going, to a place with no imagination as the last portion of his body scatters to the win leaving only a brain in a jar behind, showing that even his body was simply a creation of his own ability.
Powers and Abilities
Gremmy is the self-proclaimed strongest Quincy in the Sternritter, the elite fighting force of the Wandenreich and commanders of its armies. Gremmys incredible level of power is shown during his fight the Kenpachi Zaraki, being able to fight him competently despite Zaraki being considered one of the War Potentials and being noted to have an extreme level of spiritual power and pressure. He also displayed some feats of high speed, being able to effortlessly dodge an attack by Yachiru Kusajishi and then counter before she could defend herself. Despite never showing the ability to form a ranged weapon or a close range weapon of any kind, Gremmy can be assumed to have a high level of skill in both aspects of combat. He relies greatly on his unique power to the point where he becomes painfully arrogant. Gremmy never got the chance to show his Quincy Vollstandig, but it’s also safe to assume that he did have the ability to use one, like the rest of the Sternritter.
Blut Vene - A skill inherently known by all pure blooded Quincy. By allowing Reishi to flow through their veins, a Quincy is able to dramatically bolster their defence to levels where they are able to fend off direct attacks from a Captains Shikai. The defence is not completely absolute however, as sufficient power is able to tear through it, such as power from a Bankai or by a sufficiently powerful individual.
Blut Arterie - The counter to Blut Vene, a skill inherently known by all pure blooded Quincy. By flowing Reishi through their arteries‘, a Quincy is able to boost their damage potential to incredible levels. Very little else is known about this skill, but it's said to be the only way a Quincy is able to deal sufficient and decent damage to a Bankai wielding Shinigami.
The Visionary - Signified by the letter "V", "The Visionary" is a powerful ability granted to Gremmy by the leader of the Wandenreich and the Father and Emperor of all Quincy, Yhwach. This ability bestows Gremmy with the incredible power to turn his own dreams into reality, giving birth to impossible feats that defy nature and logic.
He has shown this ability extensively during his battle with Kenpachi, where he had shown the ability to turn bones into cookies, create large constructs from the Earth, create large volumes of water and lava from thin air, and generate weapons such as swords and guns from nothing.
His skill with this power is so great that he has also created sentient life in the form of Guenael Lee and clones of his own body, that are capable of intelligent though. And in Guenael Lee's case, was granted with his own unique ability. It's also shown that his body is created through this power. He claims that his most powerful ability is the creation of life, specifically the creation of clones of himself. He states that for each clone he creates his power increase proportionally (two clones doubles his power, three triples etc.). He displays this power in the form of a giant meteor that was touted to be capable of destroying the entire Seireitei, and with multiple clones he was capable of creating a closed vacuum of space around Kenpachi that dealt incredible levels of damage to the captain.
Despite the potential and power of this ability, it has glaring weaknesses and flaws, most of which are due to Gremmy’s lower level of intelligent thought and his personality. The first being that should he lose focus, his power vanishes, shown when he lost focus of Yachiru and her bones turned back to normal, but damaged. The second being that if he starts to believe he is losing or that he is going to die, his power will make that a reality. The third is that his power is limited based on how many bodies he has created, meaning that a single body is only capable of doing so much. The final weakness is that he is seemingly incapable of affecting others with his power if they are of a sufficient level of power themselves, this was shown when he was incapable of effecting Kenpachi directly like he did with Yachiru, leaving Gremmy to harm him indirectly.
