Attack on Titan Episode List

Back in Trost District, Sasha gets interviewed about her equipment. Two other soldiers chat about how they are being checked since killing Titan test subjects is against the law. Connie tells Armin that he wanted to join the Survey Corps. Jean recalls Marco's death and Eren's vows. He remembers how Marco told him that he can relate to soldiers better. Jean tells everyone that he is joining the Survey Corps. Armin informs Connie and Annie that he is joining Survey Corps as well. He asks Annie why she joined the Military Police. Annie replies that it's for survival. Meanwhile at HQ, Erd and Gin wonders how many new recruits will join their division. Erd asks Eren if any of his classmates will be joining the Survey Corps. Then, Levi arrives and tells Eren and the others that they are going on patrol.

Back in Trost District, Irvin Smith arrives to persuade the soldiers to join his division. He states that Eren Jaeger has proven himself a benefit to humanity. He informs everyone that the answers lie in Eren Jaeger's basement. Armin is shocked that Irvin is publicly announcing the information. While Petra and Mike hold up the map of Shiganshina District, Irvin states that they will take the long way around from Karanes to the east. In those four years, sixty percent of their soldiers have died laying reinforcing the route. Despite these discouraging facts, Irwin asks everyone if they are willing to sacrifice themselves to join their division. As everyone leaves to join the other branches of the military, Jean, Mikasa, Connie, and the others struggle to decide whether to join the Survey Corps. Erwin welcomes the new recruits with a salute. Sasha, Connie, and Krista shed some tears with their decision of facing the Titans once more.

On the next day, Squad Leader Ness introduces himself and his horse to everyone. During training, Armin notices how they are memorizing their formations while Eren's location remain unknown. Meanwhile, Levi's squad go over their formation, and they will conduct a practice run. Gunther tells Eren to trust Commander Erwin. Meanwhile, Eren spots Armin, Eren, and everyone and realizes that they joined the Survey Corps. Jean informs Eren that Marco had died, and that no one knows how Marco died. Jean and the others put on their new uniforms, the green jackets that has the Survey Corps emblem on. Later that night, Jean asks Eren if it's true that Eren (in Titan form) had attacked Mikasa. Eren admits it, but he could not remember it. Jean states that Eren has to offer them in return for their lives.

That morning, the Survey Corps ready themselves to enter Titan territory to reclaim Wall Maria.

Points of Interest

  • Krista Lenz is a member of squad 42.
  • Eyecatch Information: After three years of training, a ceremony is held in which trainees choose among the Garrison, Survey Corps, or Military Police. Only the top ten can enter the Military Police. Most soldiers choose Garrison.

The following quotes are from the Crunchyroll subtitle script, timestamps are approximate.

Irvin: "Any trainees who join will participate in our excursion beyond the walls, in a month. We expect thirty percent won't return. In four years, most will be dead. But those who survive will become superior soldiers with a high survival rate. Knowing these discouraging facts, any still willing to risk their lives, remain here. Ask yourself... Are you willing to offer your beating heart for humanity?"

— Commander Irvin's speech

Manga & Anime Differences

The following points show notable alterations from the source material.

  • The following scenes: Eren's reunion with Jean and the others, Gunther's formation debriefing, and Armin's debriefing with the rest of the new recruits occur as flashbacks in the manga, chapter 22. In the anime, it all occurred in chronological order.
  • The flashbacks of Marco and Marco's ghost in Eren's mind only occurred in the anime.
